Beginners are very welcome at all of our events, and those who already play an instrument or sing will also find the experience very rewarding. We aim to cater for all abilities, right up to accomplished musicians and singers. You don’t need to be able to read music and you don’t need to have any previous knowledge of traditional music to enjoy a Fèis. Workshops are taught by ear with participants learning tunes and songs a phrase at a time. Tutors will give you the sheet music to take home. There is an emphasis on groupwork at the Senior Fèis and all participants have the opportunity to play as part of an ensemble.
Fèis Rois nan Deugairean is one of the major highlights of the S1-S6 calendar. Participants from all over Ross and Cromarty and beyond sign up to this week long opportunity to learn, play and have fun with Scottish traditional music.
The music tuition is based in Ullapool High school and the residential accommodation is based at various hotels and B+B’s in Ullapool.
Tutors include John Somerville, Megan Henderson, Calum MacCrimmon, Matheu Watson, Ruaraidh Campbell, Roya Maclean, Barry Reid, Gillian Fleetwood, Terry Small and all six members of Manran.
